The braking system

Some front brake changes have been made here and there in the course of the model's life. The floating disks are much larger. They are maintained in place through the use of four-spot calipers, in contrast to the earlier two-piston version.

Some changes that were done to the braking system are dearly missed to those who lived the experience. One of these changes is the anti-dive whose removal resulted in stiffness and high spring rates. Yet some good brake features remain unchanged, such as the rear disk. As usual, it retains its vented features which give the passenger a feeling of comfort. The changes have not reduced the effectiveness of the braking system, only that the initial system of the '89 model had a lighter feel every time one applied the brakes. Also, the brakes required much less effort.

On the plus side, the brake changes have dramatically reduced the imbalances that are caused by bump-initiated up springing movements that have a very negative effect on the stability of the motorbike.
